Make good choices today so you can make the right decisions tomorrow!
A community in which all people can achieve their dream of becoming the #NextGenMD. We work educational institutions and community health partners to match mentees with mentors and give them the resources, tools and guidance they need to achieve their goals.
The #NextGenMD’s will need to possess a multitude of knowledge, experience and skills. They will need to come from a variety of diverse backgrounds and rural areas. As one of those non-typical pre-med students from a rural, underserved area, I am excited about the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming the #NextGenMD and excited to help you navigate your path!
Hi I’m Jordyn and I’m not your typical pre-med student story. I am a Senior from a small town in Upstate New York, north of Syracuse, and I did not grow up in a family full of physicians. As a matter of fact, very few of my relatives are college graduates. The majority of my life was spent as an athlete playing club lacrosse. It was my identity for 10 years of my life. I just assumed it would be part of who I was. Maybe not Pro, but definitely throughout my Collegiate Career. It was through a tragic experience with my Dad that I had a “life changing moment”, and realized that my identity was that of a healer, not a lacrosse player, and my real purpose on this earth was to pursue a career in medicine and to help others. It was September 29, 2020, my Dad suffered a massive heart attack and was minutes from death. I spent that day praying and staring out the window of my classroom, while blaming myself for not seeing the clues. As the dark clouds opened to the brightest rays of sun shining down on a deer grazing in the field, an overwhelming sense of calmness reassured me that my Dad would be okay. It was that day that I knew I was destined for a career in medicine and that I would help others along the way. That is when I decided I would track my journey and dedicate my time to inspiring others to be part of this community. #NextGenMD
