Success. What is it? What does it look like? How do you accomplish it? Success might look different for every student, but the tools for achieving it are generally the same. In this article, we outline ten things that high school students can do now to prepare for the future.
When applying to college, the goal of most students is to “stand out.” They want to be able to differentiate themselves from the thousands of other applicants they are competing against. Some students think their essay will separate them from the pack. Others think a lengthy activity list, or an outstanding teacher recommendation, will give them the edge on their competition. Yes, these are all important elements of your college application, but one of the best ways to stand out is to show how you’ve made an impact with your interests inside – and outside – of the classroom.
Proven leadership ability is a big deal in college admissions. Hundreds of thousands of students have excellent grades and test scores, but what often sets an applicant apart-and secures an acceptance letter-is his or her outstanding involvement in school clubs, athletics, or community organizations.
